Flatfoot

Flatfoot

Flatfoot is a lowering of the transverse and/or longitudinal arch of the foot, which may or may not cause complaints, pain, numbness, and rapid fatigue when walking and under load. A normal foot works as a shock absorber for the entire body. Every time we step or run, the feet absorb up to 5 times our weight, and if this shock-absorbing function were missing, our bones would not withstand the load we place on them and would shift or even break.

Flatfoot is a normal condition in infants and young children, because a person is normally born without an arch of the foot. It forms later, and in some children this may happen even at the age of 7-10 years. In childhood, the formation of the arch in flat-footed children can be significantly accelerated by performing therapeutic exercises. In a large proportion of adults (around 15-25%), the arch never forms.
